Forest Glade House, built in Cape Dutch style, is nestled in the stunning and tranquil rural setting of the Victorskloof at Hout Bay, annex the famous World Of Birds park. Watch the squirrels playing in the softly rustling trees, surrounding our garden and enjoy the mountain and sea-views from the vine covered patio’s around our sparkling pool. Accommodation Our double and twin bed rooms are situated around the pool area. From the vine covered patios you overlook the valley, Constantia Mountain, Chapmans Peak and the bay. The Penguin Room is equipped with kitchenette for self-catering purposes. The Dolphin Room has an annex bedroom (i.e. for children or friends) with a separate toilet, but sharing the bathroom. The bathrooms are equipped with shower, bath and toilet. Enjoy the stunning, uninterrupted views up the mountains, while revitalizing in a hot bath. Our self-contained cottage sleeps 2-5 persons and has a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, hotplates and a cosy wood stove for the chilly evenings. The sliding doors open up to your own garden and braai (barbeque) area. Our facilities large swimming pool with stunning mountain- and bay views each room and cottage are equipped with satellite television and M-net (incl. Our Breakfast Forest Glade House has also an excellent reputation for its Full Cooked Breakfast, featuring yoghurts, cereals, fresh fruit of the season, eggs any style, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato, toast to your liking, marmalades, coffee and/or tea. This dinner-size breakfast is either included in the price of your accommodation or R25 only for self-catering guests. walk five minutes to the entrance of our "next door" neighbour, the World Of Birds. Walk through the huge cages in the forest, that host one of the world's widest selections of birds, from pelicans to grey owls. Set aside at least 1½ hours for your visit. walk one minute to Victorskloof Road, built in 1867 by convicts to connect Camps Bay and Hout Bay. Do not forget your binoculars, and enjoy the uninterrupted views over the valley and bay. Follow this trail over the Ruyteplaats Estate into the Suikerbossie (translated: Sugarwood) Nature Reserve, on the slopes of the Twelve Apostles Mountains, a stunning 20 minute walk from our guesthouse. Here you can be all on your own but in the company of thousands of proteas and other plants, enjoying the endless views over the deep blue ocean, perhaps even spotting whales.
To visit us in Hout Bay, from Cape Town and peninsula you can "only" choose from the scenic Ocean Drive, the old forests roads of Constantia Pass or the world famous Chapman's Peak Drive. How to find us: From both incoming main roads just follow the signs to WORLD OF BIRDS. At the 2nd STOP-junction on Valley Road (at World of Birds billboard), turn left (Martingale Ave.) Stay on tar road (Victorskloof Rd.) Take the first road on your right (Stirrup Lane) Last house before dirt road (nr. 1) is Forest Glade House The warm-hearted, international population of our famous fishermen's town on the Atlantic coast calls itself The Republic of Hout Bay. Simon van der Stel, the Dutch founder of Cape Town two years earlier established it in 1654 as a timber harbour for wood to build houses and repair the tall ships of the Dutch East India Company. Stroll over our beautiful and clean beach, take a swim in the ocean, and watch the seals playing at our beautiful harbour site with its mix of leisure, yachting and professional fishing. Enjoy the sultry evenings, visiting one of our excellent restaurants, cosy pubs or our own local brew house at Kronendal, the first farm on the continent of Africa. In springtime you can almost pet the Southern Rights, the worlds biggest whales, playing in our bay. |
