French Finesse
Just outside Bonnievale, in the
picturesque Robertson Valley, lies Weltevrede, meaning “well satisfied” –
the Jonker Family Wine Estate whose proud heritage stretches back over many
years, and where, since 1912, the art of winemaking has been passed from
generation to generation. Today, this legacy is reflected in specialized
ranges of wines enjoyed by connoisseurs at home and abroad.
Over the years, Weltevrede has often taken the lead and has numerous
industry firsts and awards to its credit, including in 1975, the first
Breede Valley estate to bottle its own wine, Weltevrede Colombard, and in
1983 the first Gewürztraminer in the Robertson Valley.
But the estate offers more than just wines: our restaurant offers delicious
meals and is often a venue for art exhibitions, while our guesthouses is a
welcome retreat to visitors.

cozy inviting area, with mouthwatering light lunches.

In summer, sit under the vines in the courtyard to enjoy your meal and in
winter a roaring log fire will welcome you.

during the months of June and July.
Wines
Philip Jonker has done extensive studies on Chardonnay, held a national
symposium on the different styles of Chardonnay, in correlation with terroir
and clone types. Philip Jonker, winemaker of Weltevrede, is chairman of the
Chardonnay forum of South Africa.
Accordingly Weltevrede have bottled three terroir specific Chardonnays on
the Estate. With these wines Weltevrede has been selected as one of the top
8 wine estates in South Africa in the national Veritas Competition, with two
double golds for their Chardonnays and two gold awards. Weltevrede was
acclaimed by Winelands magazine as one of the Top 3 World Class Chardonnays
of South Africa.
Sauvignon Blanc in the Robertson valley has, due to the limestone rich
soils, a combination of flavours between the rich, grassy New Zealand style
and the minerally, steely flavours of Sancerre.
New World winemaking techniques in stainless steel tanks ensure rich, fresh
and fruity wines, where four generations of winemaking gives the knowledge
to produce wines with elegance and finesse.
