Cape Peninsular
" A journey of discovery "
You are taken along the Atlantic seaboard, past the Twelve Apostle Mountain
formations, and on to Hout Bay, where our first stop takes us on a boat ride
to Duiker Island, home of countless Cape Fur Seals. These intelligent,
playful and inquisitive animals possess exceptional hearing under as well as
above water. Their average life expectancy is 20 years and they feed mainly
on fish and squid. We venture on towards Kommetjie, which remained largely
unknown and undeveloped until World War II.
Visit to an ostrich farm before entering the Cape Point Nature Reserve.
These birds are very unique in feature and size. Entering the reserve, you
enter the Cape Floristic Kingdom, called fynbos meaning fine bush in the
Afrikaans language. It describes the fine leaved heathland vegetation that
grows on the infertile soils of the Cape Mountains and near the coast. Visit
the Point Lighthouse is a must and we do venture it with a tram ride up.
After lunch at the "Two Oceans Restaurant", we drive on, along the Indian
Ocean to Boulders Beach where the African Penguins awaits us. This colony
was established in 1970. They cover enormous distances for food up to 45 km.

mountains. Stellenbosch is one of the best-preserved towns in South Africa.
The historical buildings on the streets of Stellenbosch are further enhanced

(town of oaks). Stellenbosch is well worth a visit.
Franschhoek Originally known as 'Olifants Hoek', the Franschhoek area was
home to 200 French Huguenots fleeing persecution between 1688 and 1690.

National Park status in May 1998. This allows the application for Table
Mountain Park to be declared a World Heritage site. In the Table Mountain
Park, many species of animals are found that are nowhere else in the world
including the endangered Table Mountain Ghost Frog, Table Mountain Beauty
(butterfly) and the well-known silvertree. The mountain range offers
something for everyone: magnificent views, cable car rides, hiking, rock
climbing, birding and many, many more.
Robben Island 'A world heritage site'
Named 'Robbe Eiland' meaning Seal Island by the Dutch, has become one of the
most significant historical sites in South Africa has recently been declared
a World Heritage site. The Island was first used by the Dutch East India
Company (VOC) as a victualling station and later it became an asylum and
leper colony. Eventually, it fell under the Army and Navy and in1960, under
the Department of Correctional Services. The last political prisoners were
released in 1991. It gained notoriety as a gaol for those who were
considered dangerous to the old South African government. Many present day
leaders were held here including former President Nelson Mandela, the
island's most famous prisoner.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
The Eastern slope of Table Mountain played a significant role, as it was
here that Jan van Riebeek, in 1657 handed out the first sowing rights by
permitting Leenderts Cornelissen to collect timber. Three years later, Van
Riebeek gave instructions to plant a hedge of wild almonds as protection
against Hottentot raids. Remnants of the 'Van Riebeek Hedge' can still be
seen today. In 1895, Cecil John Rhodes bought the Gardens from the Eksteen
