The Western Cape has stunning natural beauty and is a treat for any walker or hiker. Some say that the Western Cape has scenery that is second to none.

Whatever your fitness level, there is a trail to suit you needs and abilities. For the casual walker you could take a stroll along one of the many beautiful beaches or choose one of the many short walks in the numerous nature reserves and parks. For the more adventurous you could take a stiff hike up to the top of Table Mountain or a 10 day walk through Tsitsikama forest.

There are many different types of terrain to choose from. From coastal walking and mountain hiking to forest and wildlife trails such as the Oystercatcher Trail, there is something for everyone.

If you plan to spend a few days or more on a trail, walk or hike you might want to choose to stay overnight in a hotel or other form of accommodation such as camping. Costs can vary tremendously but there will always be something to suit your budget.

If you need to purchase any equipment or accessories, everything that you need will be readily available here in South Africa.

Whatever type of walk or hike you choose, it is advisable to always stick to the trail and talk to the local guides before heading out. Why not join an organised walking or hiking group, which might include, meals and accommodation, and a certified guide who will be able to show you things along the way that you might have missed on your own?

There are many companies available that will plan your whole trip for you including things such as accommodation, guides and meals.

Overall, walking or hiking the trails in the Western cape is always a very satisfying experience that will give you a real sense of being in touch with nature, something that many other activities cannot provide.

If you want snow, then what better place to visit than Matroosberg Reserve in Ceres.
